Dr. Kyprianos Louis (Director of Secondary Education)

The Directorate of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture expresses its deep appreciation for the activities and work performed by the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CYCERE) of the Holy Bishopry of Limassol within the fields of environmental education, environmental research and environmental information.

We welcome the fact that hundreds of pupils from Gymnasiums and Lyceums of Cyprus participate every year unprofitably in the Environmental Education Programmes of CYCERE’s gaining enormous benefits on environmental knowledge as well as on scientific and reasoning skills and experiences and additionally on environmentally friendly attitudes.

The innovative environmental programmes provided by CYCERE promote participatory and experiential learning, lead to the complete development of our students and to their activation as citizens as to act as agents of change in the direction of promoting sustainability and solving environmental problems.

We congratulate CYCERE for offering and overall contributing on Environmental Education in Cyprus.

As the Directorate of Secondary Education, we have developed a close framework of cooperation with CYCERE also for the training of secondary education teachers of our country. In collaboration with the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Centre has organized a number of valuable training seminars that contributed to further educating secondary education teachers on environmental issues, ecology, biology, environmental education, sustainability and field work.

Also, in collaboration with CYCERE, we organize student competitions as well as the annual Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability, which has now become a successful annual statute providing the students the opportunity to present their valuable environmental work.

Based on our long-standing collaboration, the Directorate of Secondary Education considers CYCERE a valuable and indispensable partner and we wish every success in your merciful work. The Directorate of Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture will continue to support your work and your contribution in every way. Your Environmental Centre is considered a valuable partner for our Ministry.

Once again, I congratulate the Board of Directors of CYCERE and the Holy Bishopry of Limassol for the very multidimensional work of CYCERE, which is a work of unselfish offer to the education of our country.

I congratulate you warmly.
