{"id":20329,"date":"2021-04-09T13:32:35","date_gmt":"2021-04-09T10:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kykpee.org\/?page_id=20329"},"modified":"2021-04-09T13:33:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T10:33:19","slug":"earthwatch-europe-and-project-mics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kykpee.org\/en\/earthwatch-europe-and-project-mics\/","title":{"rendered":"Earthwatch Europe and project MICS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kykpee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/earth-watch.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20302\" src=\"https:\/\/kykpee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/earth-watch.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a>Overview of MICS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>MICS<\/strong> brings together six partners to develop an integrated platform of metrics and instruments to measure <u>costs and benefits of citizen science<\/u>. \u00a0These metrics will consider the impacts of citizen science on the following domains:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Society:<\/em> impact on society and individuals as well as collective (societal) values, understanding, actions and well-being (including relationships).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Economy:<\/em> impact on the production and exchange of goods and services among economic agents; on entrepreneurial activity; economic benefits derived from data, e.g. for the public good or for the benefit of private sector actors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Environment:<\/em> impact on the bio-chemical-physical environment, e.g. on the quality or quantity of specific natural resources or ecosystems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Science:<\/em> impact on the scientific process (method) as well as research more broadly; on the scientific system (institutions; science policy; incentive structures), scientific paradigms and resulting technological artefacts (e.g. sensors, apps, platforms) and standards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Governance:<\/em> impact on the processes and institutions through which decisions are made, both informal and formal (e.g. public policy), and on relationships\/partnerships, as well as the governance of data generated.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The MICS project (Developing metrics and instruments to evaluate citizen-science impacts on the environment and society) adopts and adapts the best practice generated by the Ground Truth 2.0 project in the co-creation of hands-on citizen science, validated in four case-study sites across Europe, resulting in a comprehensive conceptual framework and clear recommendations for those involved in citizen-science projects.
