Description
\n<\/span><\/strong>Barn owl is a light-coloured owl of moderate size. The top of her head, body and wings is golden with white and black specks. The lower part of her body and the wings are white. In another variation, the bird’s back is dark-brown in colour and the belly is golden-yellow with many spots.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has a large round head with black round eyes and a nice beak. Its face is white to creamy and it has a cardioid shape, which is framed by small and dense lacy wings that give it a heart shape. Its wings and legs are relatively far away. It has naughty nails. Male and female have the same appearance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Designation<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The name Barn owl took it is because of its anthropomorphic appearance while the name \u201ccharoupoli\u201d is because of its light flight, its white appearance in the dark and its creepy voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Characteristics
\n<\/span><\/strong>They are very good hunters because their sense of hearing is very acute and allows them to spot their prey hidden in vegetation or snow.<\/span><\/p>\n

They swallow their whole prey and they cannot digest it out of the mouth in the form of a sink. The acoustic resources at Antropopilos are positioned asymmetrically, giving it the ability to have amazing hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spreading
\n<\/span><\/strong>It is frequented in open areas with sparse trees, farms and other rural and residential areas. It is a nocturnal bird of prey that it is observed mainly during the dusk and during the night hours. Daylight finds shelter in dark places such as warehouses, churches, abandoned buildings, dilapidated houses, rock holes and tree trunks. The Barn owl is nightlife bird and it is active from dusk until dawn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Food
\n<\/span><\/strong>It feeds mainly on rodents such as mice and sometimes small birds, frogs and insects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Protection<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The increase of this species will contribute to the fight against harmful rodents. It is a permanent resident of Cyprus and it is a protected species.<\/span><\/p>\n
